Great Item as described with excellent delivery & fair shipping cost!

This is an excellent comprehensive overview of architectural modeling.

The text of this books is an excellent introduction and step-by-step guide to building models. It defines the different types of models and explains when each one is appropriate. It describes different types of materials and explains how to use them. It provides advice on setting up a workspace, and guides students through the entire model-making process, from planning to adding material finishes. A final chapter discusses entourage - the elements that provide scale, such as people and trees. The text is clear and concise. It assumes no prior knowledge and takes readers from the basic elements through more advanced techniques and more difficult materials.The illustrations, however, are not equal to the text. With the exception of 6 pages of beautiful, glossy, full-color photographs in the middle, all the illustrations are black-and-white photographs. The b&w photographs are not particularly crisp, and the contrast isn't very high. The quality is barely adequate to the task of illustrating a particular type of model or step in the building process. In many instances, a simple b&w line drawing would have been much clearer.If this were an inexpensive book, I would happily forgive the mediocre illustrations, but at the list price, I think the illustrations should be better than the ones I take with my cell phone.

I had recently took a model building class at my local community college and really didn't learn very much. I then purchased this book for a class I am taking now after tranfering to a University. I have learned more after only a couple hours of reading this book than I did from an entire semester at the community college. I was very frustrated, but now feel like I have been able to gain a real grasp on certain elements such as planning, understanding what type of adhesives to use and when, and how to properly cut and contruct compelx shapes such as curves, and odly pitched roofs. We had models do in class last week, most of the other student models had ragged edges and sloppy glue jobs. The professional look and cleanliness of my model stood out so much so that my professor actually used it as an example to the class on how to build a proper model. I couldn't believe it. After struggling so much with my previous class in community college, despite really making an effort and doing all the required reading, I was very nervous about spending the money for this book. I could not have made a better purchase. This book has really helped give me confidence and the believe in myself that I can succeed and do well in this field. To anyone starting out in architexture school this book is a must have.

I had to buy this book for a class. It is awesome for beginners! A couple of upperclassmen have been looking through it and think it is super helpful for them even though they have already been making models for a couple years. It is the most helpful art type textbook I have ever read. I have only had it a couple weeks, but I have learned proper cutting, gluing, and even how to perfectly curve mattboard and foam core without denting it. Instead of just talking about tools and stuff, this book actually explains the right way to use them, and what tools should be used for different materials. One of the best parts of the book is where it explains common mistakes model makers make, and how to avoid them. Lots of step by step instructions and pictures for every technique. some of the pictures are a little blurry though, it would be nice if they were clearer, but if you read the instructions and look at the pictures you will learn a ton!

This is a logically concieved and well written text. The processes are very clearly described, and have accompanying illustrations. It could be printed a little nicer though. If you want to know how to work with paper, museum board, cardboard, foam core, balsa wood, or acrylic, this book simply cannot be beat. I have several books on model making, and although many cover the same processes, none describe them so clearly as this one. There are also great sections that describe common errors. I like the fact that I don't really need to read the entire book. Any material you want to work with, just read that chapter, and it has all the info on how to work with it, great for students that don't have the time or energy to learn everything before starting a project. The chapter on foam core/foam board is really helpful, it shows you how to curve it, cut it, and how to work with a bunch of foam board specific tools that I never knew existed. I really enjoyed the chapter on how to plan a model, definitely make sure you read that one before just starting a model.

This book is exactly what an undergrad student needs. I took a class on model making at my school, it was based on this book. Each chapter has assignments. This book gives really, really, clear instructions that are easy to understand. Some of the step by step images are a little small, and the quality of the paper the book is printed on doesn't help matters any, but if you read the instructions and look at the pics, it is amazing how much you can learn. This book starts from the basics, and has clear, step by step instructions. one of my favorite parts of the book is the the blurbs that talks about common errors, you could always tell the students that didn't do the required reading, because they made the mistakes that they warn you about in the book. I read another review that talked about how much this book costs, they said the average model is way more than the cost of this book, and this is a good way to save time and money down the road. After watching the kids that didn't use the book in class, I felt that my using it was like an insurance policy that paid off on lots of occassions.

I have not finished it yet. But so far this is one of the best books I have read. Especially any one who has been in a relationship that at times does not seen healthy or right in ways.

This book was TRULY life-changing for me and I highly recommend it to anyone who is in an abusive or controlling relationship OR for anyone who is unhappy and doesn't realize that abusive and controlling patterns may be going on in their relationship. I dated my husband since we were 16 and in high school. 35 years later, I had to come to terms with how miserable I was. I stumbled upon this book and the entire reality of my life was shaken to the core. There were several chapters that brought me to tears. I felt as if I was in an earthquake and the ground was falling out from under me. But once the dust settled, I could not ignore the reality that was staring me in the face. By the time I got through the book I realized a few things: he controlled everything about my life, had substance/alcohol abuse issues, and was verbally abusive and physically threatening. Despite all of that, I had never defined him as abusive. His control issues began in high school and I interpreted his controlling behavior as "wow, he really loves me." In our 20's, he began using drugs and I gave him a pass on his behavior, blaming the drugs instead of him. Once he stopped drugging, alcohol abuse started and continued until I walked away from the marriage at 50. I told myself time and time again "boys will be boys," "he doesn't really mean the stuff he is saying, "he's just an ugly drunk." In short, I wasted 35 years of my life with this man, who distorted reality and everything I knew to be true and tried his best to make me feel small and unworthy.With the help of this book, I found the courage to tell him that I would no longer "work on things" (because he never really worked on anything, anyway). He moved out of the house last week (I bought him out) and I have to say ... it is sad, but I've never felt more at peace with the decision and I am ALREADY much, much happier. I come home now and I don't have to worry about what mood he's in or if he's going to get mad if I log in and work. NO ONE should have to live with someone who treats you like a child, or curses you out "just because that's the way he's feeling," or will not respect you or your career, or refuses to stop drinking or drugging, or who physically harms or threatens you. ALL of these actions are WRONG and if you are experiencing any of them, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK.

I went with my abusive husband to three different therapists and all of whom worked on active listening and communication exercises. None of them understood what I was really going through after we walked out their door, until I gave the last one a copy of this book which I bought on amazon for him. If you are a marriage counselor or therapist, or a spouse made to feel like you are crazy, PLEASE read this book!!! I wish it could be required curriculum for all therapist certification programs. All of the communication skill training in the world is useless if you don't understand the inner workings of what you are dealing with. If you only buy one book, let it be this one.

This is a book about abusive relationships. You will notice that `abuse' is nowhere in the title. I suspect this is because everyone has their own definition of what constitutes abuse, and it almost never covers what they themselves are doing - or being subjected to - are seeing and are concerned about. So, with a title like "angry and controlling men," they are more likely to pick up the book, thinking, "Hey, this might apply to the confusing situation I am facing."Can a man abuse a woman without physically harming her? Yes. He can scream at her. He can throw things around the house. He can vandalize her property. He can routinely blame her for everything that goes wrong in his life, or he can constantly critique her and tear her down, or he can call her names that when I tried to put them in this review, got it banned from Amazon.This does not mean that just any unpleasant behavior earns the title abuse. Bancroft uses the word "abuse," but he does not use it irresponsibly. For example, he says that if someone is angry all the time, "I would not like it," but it is not necessarily abuse.Abuse is not a binary kind of behavior that is only invoked when the fists fly, but a deeply ingrained, unrepentant attitude of ownership, entitlement, contempt and resentment that a man displays, not toward most people in his life, but toward "his" woman (including past women). Does it always escalate into physical abuse? Not always. It can still be extremely destructive, even if it never does.Does this sound hard to read? It is. Despite being written in a very readable style, this book is in some ways torture to read. The only thing worse would be to live it. I recommend that everyone who can stand to, should read this book, because it clears up so much of the confusion that prevails in abusive situations ... confusion in the mind of the victims, the observers, and even (especially?) the professionals.Even if you only read the first three or four chapters, you will be far ahead. The very first chapter, titled "The Mystery," begins with the confusion felt by victims (who might not see themselves as victims) and their friends, as they try to understand the situation and the abuser. "He says I'm too sensitive. Maybe I am." "Have I changed or has he changed?" "Why does he DO that?"This confusion is created by the abuser himself, in his highly successful attempts to justify himself to himself, to his victim, and to the people around him. Bancroft did not did start out with this assumption, by the way, but came to it after years of working with abusers in mandatory counseling groups. When he started out, he believed what the abusers told him about how their behavior was caused by their wives' failings, their traumatic childhoods, their unemployment, or the hurts done them by past girlfriends; that they didn't know what they were doing; that they "lost control." Only after several years did the author start to cotton on to the lies.Also confusing is the fact that many abusers can actually be kind (yes, kind) in between abusive incidents.Add to this the fact that the victim may indeed have some mental problems of her own (alcoholism, depression, etc.), either predating the abuse or brought on by it. If she has lived with abuse long enough, she may be barely functional. The abuser, meanwhile, is functional in his life at large (except when it comes to treating his wife well), and appears to be a sane, trustworthy person. To top it all off, he has told her many times that his behavior is her fault. (In fact, he may accuse her of abusing him ... referring to her attempts to defend herself.)Small wonder, then, that the abused woman, her friends, and society at large cannot figure out what her problem is. If they start from the assumption that the abuser is a decent guy who means well, they will never figure out the situation. There are decent guys who mean well. This book is not about them.This book is admirably free of psychobabble. For example, in one chapter Bancroft examines in some detail a frustrating conversation between a whiny, controlling man and his wife, which ends with him insisting on walking home in the cold, even though she would be willing to drive him. The author then analyzes why the man chose to walk home and resent it. Of course, his main motive is to maintain the role of victim, to keep himself in the right and his wife in the wrong, so that he can tell himself (and tell everyone else later) how she "left him" to walk home in the cold. Bancroft then adds, "Also, deep down inside [the man] there is a human being who knows that what he is doing is wrong."In another place, he says, "Most people, when you confront them about something they are doing wrong, get defensive and deny it at first. But later, when they have had some time to cool down, they will come back and admit you were right. Abusers do not do this. They use the passage of time to find additional arguments about why they are right."One last note. There is a fascinating, counterintuitive warning (late in the book), that women in abusive situations should not seek couples' counseling. "Couples' counseling is designed for problems that are mutual." Abuse is not mutual. It is unilateral. It is not the result of a communication problem. Furthermore, couples' counseling can be dangerous (!) for the wife. The reassuring presence of the counselor might get the wife to open up and say things to, or about, her husband that she would never otherwise dream of uttering. Then, when they get home (or even, in one chilling case, in the car on the way home), she can face violent retaliation.This book will haunt you, but definitely read it. It might help you someday to help someone else, even if it is only by being the only person who believes her.

I love this book! It has a great message about being an individual while not telling kids how unrealistically special they are. I don't like books that tell kids that they are more special than others, etc. This one talks about how sometimes you need to stand out and sometimes you need to fit in. I think it is the perfect balance of teaching kids that it's okay to be different and it's okay to be the same, so long as you stay true to who you are.I liked this book so much that I bought Linda Kranz's other book You Be You. I love that one, too!

What a lovely book! This gives inspiration to any person, young and old. Reminds you to stay who you are but not to veer off onto the wrong path. I actually found this when looking up inspirational books for graduation presents. It was among the list of dr. Seuss' oh the places you'll go and kissing hand. The child I am gifting this to will be starting school soon. I saw an idea of giving this as a gift to a child and having their teachers sign it every year with a meaningful message. Therefore I thought this book should be hardcover to withstand the years. The message really moved me. Before buying this book you can search the title on YouTube and it is read to you, page by page. I cannot stress enough how encouraging this is for anyone.

Sweet book with an important message on accepting yourself and others for who they are. I bought this for my preschool classroom and the children loved the colorful illustrations. We were able to make unique and fun crafts based off of the illustrations as well. The book is well made and sturdy and because it came in board book form, I was able to let my toddlers look at it without worry of them ripping it.

Great, colorful graphics! Wonderful "your place in people's lives, and how you treat them REALLY matters!" message in a cute, easy to read format.This will now be a "go to" gift choice for all kinds of children and people in my life!! Yay, Linda Kranz!!!

Did the cutest project with school kids - based on the awesome, amazing, and inspiring "life advice" Buy this book for any child who needs to hear kind advice with a modern twist.

Toddler really likes the pictures, but the content (to me) seems more like its written for adults. I mean - I get it... but I'm not sure my 3 year old really does. We do talk about the fish though and discuss differences between them and pick our favorites on each page. He likes the book, but not for the reasons one might expect.

I bought this book for my nephew who isn't talking yet, but has a Spanish speaking mother and English speaking father. It is absolutely adorable. The story is cute and the illustrations are so neat and colorful. Everyone in the family loves it.

This is a great book! We read it at school, then had the kiddos paint rocks to put outside in our "rock garden"! Very inspirational!

Avid Dr. Seuss reader and yet I have never heard of this book. I don't understand why it isn't more popular. Maybe in today's hyper security focused environment, parents steer away from books with guns. Maybe people just don't want to advocate for the great kindness and patience which should be shown to guests and more importantly the lesson that even guests might take advantage and shouldn't be allowed too. I do think this is a good book to encourage child to not allow people to just walk all over them. Everyone and everything has its limits. The illustrations are wonderfully drawn and the story line is enthralling.

My daughter first saw the movie, which I always watch with her and we both love it. This was her Christmas gift. The book does not talk about the Thneedville at all. This could confuse a kid. The book is written in rhymes and actually helped me better understand the movie. Overall, good book, we ready it often.

This is a great book. The actual size of the book is a little larger than other Dr. Seuss book I have but I like the larger size. This is a great story with a positive message. The illustrations are colorful and fun, and help to keep my kids engaged. The book is a little long so I have a hard time keeping my youngest child's attention during the whole story, but our toddler loves it! I would definitely recommend this book to all families with children at home. This book would also make a great gift for a child.

I read this book two years ago and recently decided to re-read all my Laura Kinsale books, saving the best for the last. I do believe I enjoyed this story more the second time around. What a roller coaster ride Ms. Kinsale takes the reader on, as we maneuver through the life of a powerful young duke who was born to prestige, riches, extravagance, the pleasure of women, whatever his heart desired, going on the ride of his life without having an inkling of how quickly everything in one's world can change - often, never to be the same.Christian Langland, Duke of Jervaulx, is a brilliant mathematician, all around rake, lover of dogs and a faithful friend. When his paramour's husband catches him leaving his wife's bed and calls him out, Christian isn't aware that he's in the middle of his life's greatest crisis. Yes, the strange sensation he has upon leaving his mistress's bed and walking down the stairs was a stroke in the making.Although struggling mightily with a headache and strange sensations in his arm and hand, Christian keeps his commitments during the next couple of days, including a lecture at the Analytical Society in order to present a paper he and an elderly, blind Quaker gentleman - Mr. Timms, have collaborated upon via messenger. Mr. Timms' daughter, Archimedia (Maddy) knows Christian's reputation and is very concerned he's going to play her kindly, mild-mannered father false just for a big joke. Not so - Christian may be many things, but in his heart, he's serious about math and values his work with Mr. Timms.However, when he collapses on the dueling field the morning after the lecture, the world believes he has died. It's a blow to Mr. Tibbs who genuinely respected Christian's mind and truly enjoyed their collaborative work.Fast forward to some weeks later. As Maddy and her father tour her cousin's brand new, high class asylum where Maddy is considering taking a position, she is shocked beyond measure to recognize Christian as one of the residents of the asylum. Further, apparently he's considered to be a dangerous madman without the ability to communicate. But, Christian and Maddy have a strong connection and very shortly she begins to realize Christian is still there, if she can only help him find his way out of the darkness.**Spoilerish** The rest of the story takes the reader on a fascinating journey that frankly, I don't have words to describe. Not only does Christian struggle with a serious lack of communication, he's had not a single person to stand up for him. He's almost as angry at how he's been treated as he is at his inability to communicate. Some parts of the book are difficult to take in - such as his cruel and callous treatment by staff members at the asylum.When Maddy decides to throw her support behind Christian, she battles with guilt over whether or not she's compromising the principles of her faith. Thankfully, her faith does give some leeway within the foundational beliefs to allow her to hear from God for herself. Once she has this connection, she decides to throw her lot in with Christian and do whatever she can to help him, but all along the way, she questions whether or not she's making the right choice. Ms. Kinsale has created a very strong character in Christian - possibly the most determined Hero I've ever encountered. To say that Christian drags Maddy kicking and screaming into helping him would be an understatement. Even with his massive disability, he has such drive and determination, heaven help anyone who dares stand in his way. And yet, he desperately needed Maddy. She was an angel sent from heaven. The first time we hear Christian say "Maddy Girl," it's over the top sweet.It is not smooth sailing. Christian has a competency hearing coming up, he has unethical relatives, a mother who doesn't understand him, so much prejudice against his "sickness" - but he has Maddy Girl and two friends who stick with him through thick and thin. The bottom line is that we find we have several major conflicts - Christian's disability is the primary conflict, but Maddy's religious beliefs are the secondary conflict constantly vying for first place, which affects the third conflict - she's head over heels in love with Christian. Who wouldn't be? I'm rooting for him all the way, even though one might say the life he led previous to the stroke, was not the thing at all. The results of that life come back to bite him on the butt big time and he nearly loses his Maddy Girl.Truth: I've got about 1800 books on my Kindle with approximately 1300 of that number being historical romance novels - many authored by the best of the best. Having said that, this book is probably among the top 5 and perhaps the #1 of all those romance novels - at least that's how I'm feeling at the moment.

Ive just started to get into regency romances and have read several "classics" from different 'best of lists'. I noticed this novel came up on several lists and decided to give it a read. It is by far superior to all I've read thus far. It was heart-pounding, beautifully written and now one of my instant favorites. The two main protagonists are so thoughtfully and thoroughly crafted. Although the heroine frustrates me in the second half of the book and I sometimes don't quite understand her, I think the hero is masterfully crafted. Some reviewers who gave this less than five stars complained that it was hard to read - that's the point. The novel moves very quickly from her (Maddy's) perspective to his (Christian's), but it is in Christian's perspective; one that is seriously disabled by stroke, who has a hard time hearing, understanding and articulating language, where we see the author's true gift for prose. The reader is MEANT to be as frustrated as the hero in understanding what others are saying. We are allowed to see into the depth of his mind and his consciousness. We are suppose to struggle to understand, just as he does. It takes us to another level of reading that I have really not seen in other authors. Especially in this genre. This was far beyond some other historical romances and I would put it up there (maybe not equal, but not far behind) to other classics, such as Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre). My only complaint would when the plot turns close to the end **spoiler** where Maddy writes her letter and agrees to have it published. After coming to Christian's defense so many times and staying by him so he would not be embarrassed, I could see her wishing to leave, but would not see how could she come to shame him - even if she is herself ashamed. That part seemed out of character - but it also led to such a heart wrenching confrontation in the Quaker Meeting House - something that was so beautiful, heartbreaking and exquisite that I can't bring myself to give it anything less than five stars. Highly recommend (and I never write reviews, so you know how much I loved it).

Wow....wow..wow. I know, such a lame expression for an amazing book. This book took my emotions to places I've never experienced in reading before.I love Historical Regency romance...I love sexy gorgeous unattainable Dukes, only Dukes !I love strong heroine with depth and character...I love passionate, beautiful non-porno love scenes...This book lived up to its hype of being hailed as "one of the greatest love stories of all time"Loved Christian and his Little thee thou Duchess, Maddy.I truly think this is Laura Kinsales' master piece. I'm 20+ years to the party but ...it just goes out to prove that her wonderful work is timeless. A wonderland beautiful story about redemption, adversity, love and triumphs.I saved so many favorite passages and always come back to them whenever I feel like visiting this story.You don't want to miss this one!

The third and fourth parts of the book cover methods of computational statistics, including Monte Carlo methods, randomization and cross validation, the bootstrap, probability density estimation, and statistical learning. The book includes a large number of exercises with some solutions provided in an appendix. James E. Gentle is University Professor of Computational Statistics at George Mason University. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has held several national offices in the ASA and has served as associate editor of journals of the ASA as well as for other journals in statistics and computing. I got this book for a dear friend's 2 1/2 year old because she loved the first one, and had a lot of fun reading this to her. I love the merpandas, and as with the first book I love the detailed illustrations that give kids lots to look at and enjoy as they read this over and over again. This is a delightful book from one of my all time favorite authors, and I hope they keep writing more adventures for Chu!

My 3.5 year old is getting a huge kick out of the Chu series. I think this book is even better than the first one. The story is more developed and the pictures are brighter and easier to see. Lots of little touches that appeal to adults and tons of silliness (like the merpandas) for kids.

I bought this after my wife said to me "Hey, did you know there are other Chu books on amazon?" I originally bought "Chu's Day" to read to my daughter, and thought it was a cute story with excellent illustration. This book is exactly the same in terms of cuteness, length of story, and illustration. I recommend getting all three stories for your kids. They are very short reads, but sometimes that's all you need.

I LOVE the first one in the Chu series, “Chu’s Day”, the best. Then “chu’s First Day at School” second. This one is still very good, but the story is bit more advanced. Still really great illustrations- highly recommend.

My toddler's favorite of the three Chu books. The illustrations in this one are imaginative and colorful, great for toddlers and adults.

My son loves this story. The pictures and story are very charming. He loves to sneeze along with Chu.

We love this book! I have always been a fan of Neil Gaiman and it’s a great pleasure to introduce his writings to a new generation.

Discovered this book in the library and had to buy it since my 2-year old LOVES this book - have checked out other Gaiman Chu books and this is the best one! Great artistry and plot!

Linus Pauling: Two-Time Nobel Laureate In 1985 Dover reprinted Introduction to Quantum Mechanics with Applications to Chemistry, a well-known older book by Linus Pauling and E. Bright Wilson. This book had been first published fifty years earlier and remarkably still found readers in 1985, and still does today, twenty-five years further on. The first edition of Pauling's General Chemistry was a short book of less than 250 pages published in 1944, during World War II. Three years later, it had more than doubled in size to almost 600 pages, and the 1953 edition was over 700 pages. Fifteen years later, for the 1970 edition, it reached its final size and configuration at almost 1,000 pages ― and that is the edition which Dover reprinted in 1988. Dr. Pauling's one request at that time was that we keep the price affordable for students. Linus Pauling is of course the only Dover author to win two Nobel prizes, for Chemistry in 1954 and for Peace in 1962; he is the only winner in history of two unshared Nobel Prizes. I have not read this book cover to cover, and I have not read it so thoroughly that anyone should take in too deeply what I think of it. I would not recommend this book to be used as a primary textbook in class. This is not because the explanations and ideas are completely outmoded, but because it is organized differently from how a typical college course is set up - the organization is "old-school" so to speak. I have taken two general chemistry courses, and the contents of this book are very different from what I studied in class. The fundamental ideas are the same, but with a different emphasis and approach; and personally, I like the book's approach better; it is more comprehensive. Pauling does not omit the better mathematics of chemistry (as it was done and is being done in my chemistry courses), thus introducing the reader to the most elegant and most exciting aspects of chemistry.I have not bothered to work on the practice problems which the book provides since I do not have much leisure time to study subjects outside the courses I am taking, so I cannot make any useful comments respecting that.What struck me about the book is its detailed descriptions of the properties of "interesting" atoms and compounds (e.g. hydrogen, iron, ammonia). It struck me because I am beginning to lose interest in chemistry (because of the way it is taught in class), and reading these chapters provides me with reasons to find chemistry interesting as a whole instead of just the chemistry which overlaps with atomic physics. It gives me an "intuitive feel" for the atoms involved - therefore, less memorization; always a plus. And of course, the chapters on thermodynamics and quantum mechanics are superb. Pauling goes through these topics with a depth which would frighten condescending instructors.That being said, I do not think I would have succeeded in class relying on this book alone; it is, as a previous reviewer said, "eccentric". It is an excellent supplement, but I do not believe it will be enjoyed by anyone without prior knowledge of chemistry or who is not taking a course organized the Pauling way.

I am currently a chemistry student in an honors general chemistry course at an Ivy League university, and I can say with certitude that this is an excellent resource for any chemistry student (with a decent knowledge of calculus), especially considering the price. I don't think it best to use as a default textbook for a modern general chemistry course (Oxtoby and Atkins are both very good; I especially like Atkins because I find the explanations superior to Oxtoby, though if you want the more advanced text you should go with Oxtoby, but be aware that it incorporates a lot of physics in its explanations) but as a supplementary resource it is wonderful. Stylistically, it is very easy to read and everything is explained very clearly. You can tell Pauling's audience was his students. I have a great deal of interest in chemistry and I appreciate the history that it provides on all of the experiments and discoveries, which I find to be lacking in most modern sources, like the aforementioned Oxtoby and Atkins. It is exceptional in that it covers so many diverse topics, which is wonderful because general chemistry is so broad, and in particular has a lot of material on biochemistry and quantum chemistry, which makes a lot of sense considering Pauling's achievements in those fields. Its age does show in the some of the notation. For instance, it seems to defer to using formal rather than molar concentrations, which I had never seen previously (they are however, essentially the same thing; formal simply ignores the species in solution and only looks at the initial number of moles of species present, while molar takes into account species present). I just wish there were a solutions manual somewhere.

I purchased this ebook, General Chemistry (Dover Books on Chemistry) as a Kindle Book for $11.49 and feel after going over it in my initial use of the text, that it is a good buy. I am not a student, rather one who took chemistry in High School and College as a non major subject. Chemistry is not a high profile field that interested me at the time I was in school, other than needing to have some knowledge of the subject. Now I am returning to my studies in science, physics and engineering studies, just for the fun of it. This book is putting me where I want to be with my knowledge of chemistry and will surely lead me to further reading and experimentation. I like it a lot.

I am a chemistry teacher and a chemist, with a background in physical chemistry. I have had the good fortune of having some world-class chemists as teachers during my education, who's insight and wisdom I have (with much effort) tried to incorporate into my own teaching style, as they have changed my life in very significant ways. I purchased this textbook after reading many positive reviews, leaving me curious to hear the words from the horses mouth. Although I have only read the first few chapters so far, I can say that this is the greatest inorganic chemistry textbook that I have ever read. Pauling does a beautiful job of synthesizing classic and modern physics in developing the theories of what is now known as Quantum Mechanics -- his approach is from that of pure thermodynamics, and masterfully done, I might add. Never condescending, but coming from a very different level of understanding, reading this book is like watching any master artist creating their art before your very eyes -- genius in it's raw, pure, unadulterated form. The best that any intelligent being can do is sit back and watch the artist do his thing -- in awe.

Pauling was arguably the greatest chemist of the 20th century. His enthusiasm, intuition, and technical chops are all on display throughout this text. I find I can read this for pleasure, which is rare for a textbook. I wore out the binding of my first copy. Feynmann might be a comp. Chemistry as a subject has doubtless advanced since 1970, but I don't think there is much in this book that needs correcting.

got this book to help me learn new Spanish language. The book is a helpful and resource to learn Spanish. There it will help me learn new words and help me with the speed.

This is a great book for a 3-year-old child. I'm raising my daughter to be bilingual and I read stories in Spanish every evening. She loves this story and the large colorful images. I like the size of the book and the length of the copy per page -- great for a toddler!

Great for the new reader in my family. He's already bilingual and we're hoping to keep him this way with the new books.
