This book was a big hit with my grandson who is 8. He really laughed and read it several times. When my children were his age, we read books about the "Stupids". They did things like take baths with no water in the tub and were so proud when their children failed all their subjects. My kids and I thought they were hysterically funny. Of course using the word "stupid" is no longer politically correct. Now that's just stupid! Anyway this book is the same family with the same kind of issues. It's just called dumb instead of stupid. It's very funny and the drawings are great too.

I hesitated to give this book a 5 star rating, since it hardly is a work of "fine literature." However, what pushed me into the 5 star category was the sheer delight of seeing my 6 year old son laugh out loud as he read the pages. If the goal of this book was to get my son to really get into a book he was reading, then the goal was met. The Dumb Bunnies' Easter is great for the K-2 crowd - because the pictures are funny, the sentences and word selection is manageable for them, and the jokes are not over their heads. In fact -the jokes are right at their level - which is often hard to find in the "Easy Reader" literature. For these reasons, I rate it a 5 star book - It is actually more clever than dumb. But it still is pretty dumb! Also - FYI, if I had to pick one holiday to break out this book, I'd choose Christmas time - since most of the references are more about Christmas than any other holiday. It definitely has a Christmas-y sort of feel despite the Easter title.

DUMB BUNNIES' EASTERI purchased this book for my three year old grandson, Colton. Colton says the DUMB BUNNIES are SILLY! He is right! I also purchased it for my ten month old granddaughter, Paige, who is too young to appreciate the humor now but certainly will as she gets older and wiser!The Dumb Bunnies ROCK. They are for everyone! They are just so dumb that you have to laugh at them! The story line is goofy and the illustrations are great. In this book Easter is combined with every other holiday you can possibly think of. Kids enjoy the humor and the pure happiness of the story, and there is plenty of humor for adults too. This is one book you will enjoy reading over and over and over to your grandkids.I will definitely be purchasing ALL of Dav Pilkey's books to add to my grandkids book collections. Shh, don't tell anyone! They are REALLY for MY enjoyment!Thank you!!!!Pam

"The Dumb Bunnies' Easter" has always been one of my favorites and now I have given a copy to my great-niece as she starts Kindergarten. She loves to "read" and be read to, and she has a great sense of humor, so I'm sure she will enjoy it as much as I did (and so will her parents!)

My kids loved this book! We do a Christmas book advent every year, and try to add a few new books to the mix each year. This one was a huge hit with all my kids, though the husband was a bit confused with what was going on. Cute illustrations and funny, non-traditional story of a family of bunnies getting ready to celebrate Christmas. My kids were rolling on the floor laughing at the silliness of this book.

This book is so much fun for the children and also for the adult reading it to them. I use it in speech therapy for inference, prediction and finding "what's wrong with this picture" as well as differentiating literal from real meanings. The laugh value keeps the children's attention and interest. It is an enjoyable book for all kiddos. I am buying the hardback edition sinced I am on my second paperback copy. It has literally been read until the pages fall apart. This is a book well worth the money.

My 7 year old love the bunnies and so do I because it gets her reading on her own

This book, written and illustrated by Dav Pilkey (don't let the author's name fool you!) is adorable. It's funny and kids LOVE it. I use it to teach writing lessons and the kids adore this book. You can't go wrong with a Dav Pilkey book. From the hilarious "Captain Underpants" to his "Dumb Bunny" series, this author/illustrator is hilarious! Perfect pitch humor that kids of all ages will enjoy. Parents/teachers, too!

There are some deficiencies in the weapons lists. There is a Rome centric view that doesn't effortlessly sync with the outer regions of the empire like Gaul, Britania, Egypt, Greece, Asia Minor, or N. Africa. It's great if you're a resident of Rome and the immediate vicinity between Julius Caesar and Titus, but once you leave there, the Keeper will have to do a lot of historical research and develop the scenery. Invictus has the potential to be a great CoC addition, it just needs some more detail for the keeper on later empire and outer empire customs, peoples, weapons, clothing, etc.This isn't an adventure book. It has a few scenarios for short games exposing you to the environment, but it's up to the keeper to come up with full campaigns.

Chaosium publisher has gone insane. First the middle ages, now the roman era. A pleasant book with lots of ideas and scenarios, new mythos creatures, tomes and rules. And rules for ancient combat (you can stab a Gug with a Scorpion!). The only flaw I saw was the way they describe the Olympian Gods; not a good idea.If you like fantasy or historical games with notes of terror, you will like this book. If you play CoC and want new scenarios you will like it too.

I am almost finished reading this book as of this review. The maps are great and the information is very well put together and detailed. The amount of raw setting gives one the ability to run whatever and wherever one wishes, but not at the expense of it being too boxed-in! Great Product!

This book is well researched and provides an evocative view of the mythos in ancient Rome. I picked it up purely for reading pleasure and I am finding that to fulfills that nicely. It is only a basic primer though, their is still much research to do flesh out some of the surrounding territories in the ancient world. It has a nice section on different cults of this age.

The Invictus Setting is just another slice of goodness for those Investigators who want to go back to the time of the Roman Empire. There are still plenty of horrors waiting for investigators too.

A good supplement for Chaosium's Call of Cthulu game system. This provides a high level overview of the late Roman Empire such that players, or GMs, can run games based in this milieu—with some further detailed research on their own. Good map, abundant illustrations that tie in well with the text and decent references make this one to buy for any COC GMs or players seeking to expand their scenario pool. I only gave it four stars, rather than five stars, because of the purely high level overview thrust of this book; it is well written and laid out.

This is a great supplement and it has amazing information on Ancient Rome, and about the monsters found in Rome too. The scenario that comes with it, "Prophylaxis Panacea Efqa" is pretty well written for a beginning of the time period, and is looks like it may need about 2 or more investigators to play in it. Other than that, this is well made and I recommend it to all who want to play in Ancient Roma! Happy playing and Merry Cthulhu!

In the Buddhist spiritual communities I have been a part of for many years, I have felt the opposite pitfall -- that the teaching to "open your heart to everyone" can enable martyrdom. Rick, as usual, holds the complexity in this book, that includes both poles, and a balancing of the various necessary perspectives. His broad-mindedness aims very high -- helping yourself while helping others, never leaving anyone out of your heart, or finding how to bring them back into your heart, while at the same time keeping yourself safe.I have learned from him more than anyone what post-traumatic growth is and how to practice it. The victim mindset feels unsatisfying to me. He offers practices to move beyond that, from many angles. Practicing focusing on the gifts and fullness of any given moment rather than the deficits (this has eased my suffering over time). Practicing considering upstream causes, that resulted in another person's actions toward you (or a culture's actions, etc.). How what comes at you is often not personal or about you. How one needs to discern and self-protect and assert oneself, but one of the best odds strategies for doing that is to help others feel safe. How one can learn to be autonomous or not "in lockstep" with others' actions, so that one can respond with unilateral virtue rather than react impulsively. How to meet the moment "feeling already full" and therefore not be so pulled to and fro by others. There's a strong, complex section on forgiveness.One of my issues is binge eating disorder, and I am having some successes with pausing during meals to notice "how full I am already" -- just with my sense doors -- what my eyes, ears, nose, and kinesthetic sense are taking in -- much fullness there. Too many professionals have lost who they are and why they are, because of justification for their job. When people we serve are turned into a number because of the dollar. It's an easy book, with some basic, usable ideas about wisdom - which isn't discussed or defined though! It contains many cases, elaboratedly described, but still somewhat artificially. From the point of view of management its naive since it only discuss and criticise rules and incentives as the two culprits of management; og the cases are often somehow extreme, which leaves you a bit barehanded when it comes to more complex cases.It's easy read - and still worth the time spend.

I didn't know how much I wanted to know everything written in this book. Yeah, Aristotle! Thanks so much Schwartz and Sharpe for making wisdom a little more accessible.

Practical Wisdom accomplishes something very subtle that many of the reviewers on here seem to have missed. It presents a moral lens through which we might view American institutional breakdown. And because it is a lens we don't usually look through, it is paradigm shifting. What the mediocre reviews suggest is that the institutional breakdown has been covered by others and that the authors can't hang with academic moral philosophers. But these reviewers have clearly missed the point.At the heart of the book is an application of Aristotelian ethics to an analysis of what has gone wrong with a set of core professions - law, medicine, teaching, and banking. Aristotle argued that ethics is not something we learn in a book somewhere and then go out and apply. Rather ethics is an everyday practice of learning to do the right thing, in the right way, at the right time, and in the right amounts. It involves balancing and optimizing multiple different and often conflicting goals. When our friend asks if we like her new hair cut, we want to be empathic and honest, we want her to look good and feel appreciated. And it takes practical wisdom to know the right thing to say, in the right way, at the right time. And it is like this with everything we do in life. The presentation of this material thus far is solid and lucid, though far from groundbreaking.The problem is that we have neglected practical wisdom and instead focused on rules and incentives. Something has gone dreadfully wrong in our ability to read situations and to know how to act. It is as if we no longer trust ourselves and one another and can think of no better way of moderating our behavior than to regulate it with policies. This is a groundbreaking application of Aristotelian ethics to institutional breakdown. The problem, they are saying, is not too much government or a lack of the right programs but the way we behave. But what they have to say about our behavior is completely different from anything you will find in most personal development and spiritual books. Yet, it is easy to imagine at this stage that we are dealing with yet another libertarian railing against rules. But while the authors do not take positions on the political spectrum, this is far from another libertarian rant about regulations.What is unique here is the answer they provide to institutional collapse: we need to provide the space for people to more fully engage their work, and the people working need to engage it in the right way. They need to recognize the ethos of their profession, the purpose, or perhaps we could say the mission. They need to recognize the various values and goals they seek to accomplish. And they need to develop the capacity to see which values and goals are appropriate for the circumstances. This can be accomplished through experience. It cannot be learned in a book and it cannot be fostered through incentives, though some policies will do a better job of creating space for this wisdom to be practiced and for it to arise. Rather, through experience we learn to recognize patterns, and in seeing a pattern that we recognize, given sufficient conscious experience, we will know what to do. For life is vastly more complex than textbook moral dilemmas.The book highlights the hollowness of a variety of institutions, covering all of the major professions. And while I have seen analyses of each of them, few authors have taken on all of them at once. So this is more comprehensive than yet another analysis of the health care system or the finance industry. And because it is a comprehensive institutional critique, it could also be said to be a cultural critique. And while many authors, stretching deep into American history, have explored American shallowness and glibness, a lack of the capacity to see nuances and to do what is most fitting, I am aware of no one who has matched such a critique with an ethical answer. If these are the problems of the American character and American institutions, then there is an ethical practice that can transform our institutions, transform our culture, and transform ourselves. That practice is practical wisdom. This goes straight to the heart of what has long been ailing America and provides an answer that is difficult to reject. If many of the reviewers seem to have missed the point, this may because they themselves lack an eye for what is fitting. It is a subtle answer, and while the examples are abundant, it would be easy for the reader to collapse their answer into just a critique of institutional breakdown or a simple self help book. It is neither and so much more.Now those who have read the book may notice that I added a little. The authors do not mention a deep critique of the America character, and perhaps if they did, the controversy would have sold more books. Nor do they discuss much about more recent developments that have driven our turn toward rules and regulations. Answers might range from information overload to increasing levels of diversity to increases in human freedom to the breakdown in social norms. There are answers for all of these challenges, but as far as I am aware, no one has provided practical wisdom as the answer. In a personal interview with Barry Schwartz, he appeared to concur with my suggestion that these were some of the causes behind the shift. And perhaps the book would have grabbed more of us by the shirt collar if the authors had mentioned these things. American society at the dawn of the twenty-first century is radically complex, and we are still struggling with how to manage that complexity.My criticism of the book is unusual in that I don't think the authors went far enough in applying their own framework. In other words, I think they are able to answer more problems than they seem to recognize. Take cultural diversity. One school of thought says we need to be more sensitive to difference. Another school of thought says we need to integrate cultural difference into a wider set of shared norms. But while Practical Wisdom does not touch on the issue, it provides an answer. What we need to do with difference is engage it, and through continually engaging our human differences, we will begin to see what sort of engagement is the right kind at the right time. Through engaging differences in this way, we might develop new norms of human interaction. This is how we make a Boston or New York or San Francisco work. Or take environmental ethics. The last few decades have seen a massive increase in the number of beings and things we need to take into ethical consideration: how we travel, where we drive, what we eat. To those of us who take animal suffering or greenhouse gas emissions seriously, the burden of ethical commitments can become unbearable. Most just try to throw off the burden by making glib remarks about vegetarians or treating climate change as a hoax. But Practical Wisdom provides a framework through which we might optimize the application of this mountain of commitments. Vegetarians could do far more good if they learned the right way to engage their concern for animals, in the right amounts, at the right, all the while paying attention to the right times for personal and the right times for political change.The book also pulls the rug out from libertarian conservatism. For they may be reacting to the exact same things that the authors identify as being problematic, but their answer lacks compassion, is divisive, and may not actually accomplish what they want. The authors could have been more explicit here and used that challenge to draw attention to their very important arguments. But the book also opens the gates to a third way in American politics. Call it the civil sphere. Perhaps we as a society could learn to identify institutional problems that are not conducive to policy solutions, either of the minimalist or maximalist kind. Perhaps we could identify areas where there is a need for more space free from regulations. Imagine uniting the teachers unions with contractors, entrepreneurs with liberal legal rights groups, doctors with creative rebels. The agenda would be neither left, nor right, nor center, but entirely new. Any politician who adopted these arguments would find a ready constituency of disengaged swing voters.There is another way the work could be taken further. In the tradition of Aristotle, the authors suggest that practical wisdom cannot be studied but must be learned through experience. But one can imagine creating exercises that speed up the learning process immensely by helping us to identify what it is like to experience practical wisdom within the context of one's profession. Here is what I have in mind. Spend some time identifying and writing up the mission of your work. Then list the goals, values, principles, and objectives you seek to accomplish. Now imagine a challenging scenario of the sort you often confront on the job. Notice how it feels in your body. Now try to imagine what it would feel like if you could accomplish several of your objectives at once. Notice how this feels. Now imagine other similar scenarios, noticing how it feels to get the response right. Do this repeatedly and regularly until it is second sense. Having done such an exercise, a person could much more quickly learn practical wisdom.If the authors failed to include such exercises, perhaps it is because of the groundbreaking nature of the work. This book simply opens a gateway into a whole new way of looking at being in the world and there isn't the space to go into all of the applications. The point of these criticisms is not to say that the book was lacking, but rather that it was so ripe as to require a follow up. Read it and read it well. Perhaps if you read it with practical wisdom, you too will see it to be a masterpiece.

I longed for more examples.Practical Wisdom's subtitle "The Right Way to Do the Right Thing" would make a fabulous main title and subject for a much needed follow up book. I want so badly to read page after page about various system changers and what they are doing to lift themselves and others out of the rampant and insidious demoralization that Practical Wisdom has brought to light.Surely there is enough material out there to fill a book. I really, really hope so.

Medical doctors and neuroscientists clearly state there is no foundation for anyone to state how the human brain collects, processes and stores data for recall. Yet, this book and Kenneth Sharpe as an instructor 'claims' with diagrams there is a method and different sources in how the information is received, such as in a story being told verses actually experiencing an event, can make a difference in retention. Yet Sharpe will not discuss in class alternatives for consideration or questioning based on a students actual experience. Nor will he discuss the fault of story telling by second or third parties. Does a primary story teller always explain the event perfectly or correctly? Was the primary story teller watching the event or involved in a specific portion of the event? All too technical for Sharpe. His response; "so-and-so doesn't think like the rest of us." This is an actual quote.

Lots of ideas. but not much technique. Still worth the money

Great book

A wealth of information regarding the different historical Scandinavian periods. A small history lesson in itself.All photos are in color. The pieces of the furniture shown an an example are wonderful. The samples that the book offers for you to paint are too simple. I wanted to learn how to paint the "real" thing.Excellent description on technique.Recommended reading, but not recommended patterns for painting Scandinavian furniture.

You'd think that a guy who has constantly lived in the limelight and fame of championship motorcycle racing would have an ego a mile wide. But its interesting to read about what really drives Valentino to be the rider he is.He does it for the purity of riding. Proving he can ride the wheels off any motorcycle, regardless of manufacturer. And most importantly, he conveys the importance of the race team itself, not the enterprise funding it (though both are important).Buy this with the "Faster" DVD and you'll really get an inside glimpse of someone extremely gifted.The book is well written and really gives you a ringside seat to many parts of his life both recent and past. You want to know what drives a champion rider to defect while on top of the premier Honda racebike (while he's winning the championship)? Read on. You'll understand and you'll agree with his decision. It really lets you know the richness of his riding soul. Fame and fortune are there, sure, but unlike some of his past rivals, he's not driven by those forces. Humor is abound as well. There were parts that had me laughing uncontrollably while on a long airplane flight.Thanks, Valentino. I hope to read a sequel after another decade of life experiences.

Book came without the front cover, even though the ad made no mention of this. Pretty lame. Awesome book though and I got it at a great price so I still gave it 5 stars cause.... really, I just don't care. In the future though... this seller should be more clear on what you're paying for.

I bought this books because I was just intrigued with the fact that someone writes autobiography being 27 years old. I do not think he did it for a money or fame so I wanted to check it out. I am not fan of Valentino or Moto GP. This book by far surpassed my expectations. It is written in the way as you would talk to the person with conversation jumping from one thing to another without much chronological order and this make it enjoyable reading.Two things I liked the most is that he pays a lot of tribute to the team what is quite rare in his position. Other thing is that he reveals such intimate details and opinions about his decision making and motivation, as well about honda and yamaha teams which is really unusual keeping in mind the guy is still in the business.One thing I miss is to learn what was the writing process and to which degree Borghi was decided on the style and content. I think the ending could have been written better, but it is always the thing with good books.

I have been a race fan of Rossi since I saw him in the last 500cc championship. It's a great read, but I felt as if the book skipped around too much between time periods, instead of just focusing on just one time. His story isn't told in a linear way from childhood start to MotoGP stardom; rather it begins with his 2004 departure from Honda to Yamaha, jumps to his childhood/teen racing, and then the era right before his MotoGP career. I thought the book structure deserved better editing.It is insightful in that you get many details from his perspective, such as his rivalry with Max Biaggi or how his many feelings on his departure from Honda.Overall, a short book which is good for a day or two of reading.

I bout this book used. The pages are slightly yellow (but who doesn't love that color haha) and there are a few dings on the cover. The reason I'm giving it 5 starts is because that is pretty much how it was advertised! Also, I am not very far into the book, but it's got me hooked! It's really cool to see the races through a legend's eyes!

This biography of the "doctor" is more than the sum of its chapters. It will inspire a person to reach out and go for the impossible.

When I first got this book I figured it would be just another racer writing a book for publicity. Then I thought about Rossi's feelings on celebrity status and gave it a go ahead. Wow, it is so well written. I cannot read Italian or I would give it a go to read as it was by the World Champion. The translation seems to be spot on and is just a book that [..] in till the end, and I still reread it. Well to be honest it only took me about 9 hours, straight albeit, to read it. Lots of thumbs up!Damian

Really interesting and well written. I read this ages ago and finally got around to doing a review. I'm not really a race fan but I love a well written autobiography and in the wide realm of sports biographies and autobiographies, this one is outstanding. Even if you arn't into sport. The book is easy reading and the writer uses a chatty, conversational style throughout. I'd recommend it to anyone just as a good autobiography, regardless if they knew who rossi was or not.
