Boogiepop is a compilation of stories set in contemporary Japan that revolve around change and adolescence. It has a psychological/horror bent to it and seems to be very steeped in the psyche of modern-day Japan (at least of the last 3 decades). Opposing and coexisting cultural values play out in the first three volumes as a number of characters struggle with the inevitable changes in their lives.These are incredibly insightful stories if you are interested in Japan as a country, but even at its simplest, the Boogiepop series is a curious adventure with fun and unique characters. Much in the style of Baccano! and Durarara, the stories are explored in a non-linear fashion with various narrators. If you enjoy either of those titles or are a fan of supernatural mysteries, I highly recommend picking this up.My only complaint with the omnibus version is that I had counted a total of 5 typos. I hope if Seven Seas decides to translate and publish any additional novels (which would be amazing!) that they encourage their editor(s) to spend a little more time on it.

A really unusual read for sure, but engaging and thought provoking. The characters are detailed and complex, though not everyone will like the structuring of the stories, which involve detailing events from different characters perspectives, in reverse chronological order. A point gets knocked off for typos, but put back on for (*SPOILER ALERT*) referencing Atom Mother Heart. A great read overall.

Overall I enjoyed these books, but they would have been much more enjoyable if they had been proofread better. I hope the publisher will do a better job with the next omnibus edition.

I wish this wasn't an omnibus but I guess I should feel lucky that they even reprinted it at allSeries is really good

Perhaps it is a lesson of discretion, since when the bachelor brags about his pot to all the villagers, a jealous woman steals it. No. The imp just gives him another pot, this time one that will give him all the plates and cups he demands--gold, silver, the works. When the jealous woman steals that one, the imp gives him yet another one, this time a pot that reveals the reflection of the thief in possession of the bachelorÂ’s two pots. Ah. Will it be a lesson in justice? No. The bachelor who rushes to confront the old thief is so enchanted by her nasty temper and bad manners that he asks her to marry him: "And from then on, I am happy to say, their quarrels could be heard from one end of town to the other!" PreSchool-Grade 3-A grumpy old bachelor drops a bean down a well inhabited by an imp. To stop his complaints, the imp gives him a magic pot that produces food on command. The bachelor's jealous neighbor steals the vessel and its replacement. A third pot reveals the thief's identity to the bachelor. But when he confronts the nasty old lady, he realizes that he has found a woman as bad-tempered as he, and their marriage results in a "quarreling ever after" conclusion. Loosely based on a Jewish folktale, the story is set in Morocco. The full-color, bright illustrations offer some sense of locale; the use of patterns in clothing design and in the borders for text blocks adds visual interest, and viewers can also follow the activities of the bachelor's dog. Full disclosure, my background is Jewish Moroccan and so this tale set in a Jewish Moroccan village definitely filled a vacant rare niche for my two year old's collection that I was desperate to fill.That aside, the art is delicious to behold. Vibrant painting like style with plenty of detail. My son and I found things to discuss in every part of every page, from various animals wandering around, to the jalabiya clothing worn by the people, to their detailed facial expressions etc.. I've read this book to him 10s of times and he still requests it.The main and side morals of the story are wholesome as well. Seeing a grouch who stays a grouch but still helps his fellow man gives the main character depth and his humorous interaction with the others kept my kid interested. The book being big helped us really take in the scenery and the experience of the town. It allowed me to play off the mood of the place when reading to him.A great book.

This is a fun book with beautiful illustrations. My students enjoyed the silliness and the good natured spirit of the story.

Not much story here and I thought the overall theme was uninspiring and mean. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

The so-very-talented Shelley Fowles has created some over-the-top illustrations for her book. The colour, the detail, the borders --- everything just pops off the page! The story is about a couple who really deserve each other -- a grumpy bachelor and a jealous old lady -- based on a Moroccan Jewish folk tale.

I really enjoyed this book, but I am not so sure it is for everyone. Although it is entitled 50 People Every Christian Should know, and in a sense these are people that Christians should know about, with a few exceptions this book is about preachers. And it was written by a preacher seemingly for other preachers. It is heavy (as heavy as these short bios can be) on sermon prep, homoletical technique and ecclesiastical politics. These are the seas I swim in (except for ecclesiastical politics, I am not important enough for that nor am I part of a denomination) so I found this book fascinating and helpful, but I am not sure my wife would have.For me the best part of the book was the bibliographic information that the author gives on each person discussed, both recommended biographies and recommended works. This book is a great gateway into deeper study of preachers of the past, especially those of 18th & 19th century England.

Wiersbe's books are always inspiring and this one will make you want to go out and do more for Jesus just like the rest of his books will. Particularly this Pastor. As a matter of fact, he could have titled this book (and should have) "Pastors Every Christian Should Know" because that's predominately who this book is about. Not a problem for me because it really helped me to appreciate all the hard working and innovative Pastors who paved the way for us today but generally speaking you may wish Wiersbe had put more missionaries and theologians who made big impacts for the faith in this book as you read it. This book is also a great introduction to the literature these Pastors produced that has been largely forgotten today. If not for those repackaging these older titles now for ebooks we probably wouldn't have them to read and with Wiersbe explaining why they are important we wouldn't have known they had existed. As I read the books he recommended for each person I wondered where this man found all the time to read these books! For that alone you should get this book.

I enjoyed every profile in this book. It went deep enough to become familiar with the person and their beliefs. It also guided you to considered the spiritual aspects of each person's journey in serving God. I love the list of their writings and have accumulated a lot of titles on my wishlist. It is definitely a book that will make you stop and give consideration to things in your own life. The listing of books after the notes at the back of the book, about and by each person mentioned will be invaluable when I am ready for other things to read. Whatever your beliefs this book has some meat of learning for all.

I really enjoyed learning about the lives of these 50 believers, especially those commendable aspects focused on in the book. For each one, several aspects of their lives that encourage and challenges the reader were covered. It caused me to want to learn more of some of these people. There are other believers that I would have put above a few that were featured, but I enjoyed each one that was included. I would like to see more books of this type that gives similar brief histories of prominent believers from the past.

Its true every Christian should know about these people of the faith! Very inspiring for your walk with God, it is not an easy road and those in this book can prove that but it's well worth the journey!! Very inspirational!! Anything from Warren is a good book!

I enjoyed learning about these 50 individuals who were used of God to minister to many and who left indelible marks in the Church for a blessing to us and our generation. May these men and women of God never be forgotten. I highly recommend this book because not only does the author give short biographies but also lists books that many wrote that are still available to us.

I appreciated Wiersbe's great introductions to these 50 Christian leaders. Each chapter was short enough to hold my interest and he pointed out further reading available by each person. Some of these saints I was already familiar with and others I was pleased to be introduced to. This book gives a glimpse and points you to other resources to find more in-depth information. Every Christian needs to know of the giants who have gone before and brought us to where we are today. This book is inspiring with the stories of sacrifice and faith of those who have paved the way.

What a great storyteller Wiersbe is! I love reading anything of his, but this was especially good. He makes everything interesting and relevant! I highly recommend this book. I have learned so much!
