One thing I can count on in Ms. Phillips’s books: strong, admirable characters. The women are loving and intelligent, with inner strength; the men each love their new-found mate (although that is expressed in a variety of ways), they’re protective, and, yes, possessive.Ella is diminutive, and underestimated by nearly everyone at first. It’s rewarding to watch her blossom under Karthajin’s care. I love her playful demeanor and the way Karthajin is able to relax from his stressful role as emperor.This is an exciting story, with significant danger from unanticipated sources - a page-turner! I know you won’t be disappointed!
I really liked this book though I'm not into anal sex so that was a page skipper for me. But still I can't wait for the next one to be released which I have already bought.
The story was very exciting. Always something going on with the characters. A lot of explicit sex, so if that makes you uncomfortable. Don't pick this book
Who wouldn't fall in love with Ella. She is adorable. I lover her innocent maturity. Great read and look forward to many more.
4th in series so far and I was hooked from the first story. Always waiting for the next, thank you Ms Phillips.
I absolutely loves this book! Ella is a new slave in the house of the Emperor Karthajin. Thought to be only a child, Ella was purchased by the slave master to prevent her from going to a brothel after seeing how meek and traumatised she looked and knowing what her future would be.After witnessing the murder of her original owners Ella falls completely mute. Upon a chance meeting with the emperor she finds she is drawn to him and begins to seek him out much to the exasperation of the kind slave master.When he feels he has noother choice, the emperor decides to take in Ella until he can figure out a more permamanet arrangement. He quickly grows feeling beyond affection for her which concerns him as he thinks she is only a child, but when he comes to find out she is actually a full grow woman and then his passion flairs. With patience and time she learns to regain her words and they both learn together what love can truly feel like.
I loved this book!!! Loved it!! Ella is a brave vibrant sassy character who may not talk in the beginning but she still gets what she wants. Her innocence is portrayed in a quiet but sweet way that makes her rather adorable. As far as Karthajin, he's a strong character who's self assured and confident but not overly arrogant in his position as a ruler. He wants so much to spare Ella from the harsher side of court life and is pleasantly surprised when she proves perfectly capable of standing up for herself. Their dynamic is fresh and sweet as he slowly introduces her to the sex and intimacy she craves. This book was fun and sassy. It had just enough intrigue and adventure to keep it from having any slow moments. I love the entire series, but this one is my favorite so far. Although this is listed as book 5 each of the individual novels are about a different relationship and so they could technically be read as standalones. It’s a fairly short novel and is fast paced making it so that I wanted to sit and read the entire book, it’s a real page turner! The men are looking to find their chosen mate and the women are down to earth but still very intelligent. Love doesn’t seem to acknowledge rank or status and what the heart wants it wants! It’s a great story to read and can be explicit at times. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
