The widows son becomes ill and Elijah must use his divine powers to bring her son back to life.The Lord instructs Elijah to go back to Samaria where he must prove The Lord is God. The people of Israel are worshippers of Baal, therefore Elijah is given the task of showing how powerful his god is. Elijah brings their God to shame, then is threatened by Jezebel, so The Lord instructs him to go to Horeb where he gives a servant Elisha.There is so much power given to Elijah but he never uses it for his own glory. He really tried to help the people of Israel because by serving idol Gods this will lead to their destruction. After Elijah has done the work of The Lord, he is taken to heaven by a whirlwind.The book itself is very informative but there is A LOT of unnecessary information that drags the book along. I appreciate the added information provided but I would love to have the book stay on topic.
what an interesting view of Elijah. I love reading books about people in the bible. this one is especially good, although i don't agree in all of his opinions.
Charles Swindoll never disappoints in this series of books. I read the Bible, but Swindoll offers such great insight and different views of what I am reading. He takes Elijah's journey and makes each part applicable to today and walking with Christ.
I love Swindoll's books, just like I love his teaching. I have been listening to him and reading his books since the early 80s when I first began turning towards the Lord. Chuck Swindoll has a way of putting things that really gets the point across, and his writing style is friendly and warm, even familiar -- just like his teaching style on the radio. Excellent book, as are all the books in this series!
As with all of Chuck Swindoll's work, this hits the mark. It is about growth, man's struggle, and relationship with God. It is true that no two people are the same but we face many struggles that are similar. With the Bible, God gives us direction as well as people to help us with our growth. Elijah is a great man of faith and this is a fantastic book about his work and faith. If you have never known about Elijah, or if you do, read this insight for life.
Anything Pastor Swindoll writes is great and highly recommended.
As expected, Dr. Swindoll generates an interesting study of this significant prophet. I will purchase for others to use as a study guide.
Wonderful book so far. I'm juggling between this and another for a specific subject in demonic spirits Elijah faced and this author and minister is one of my favorites. I have read David and Esther of his series and absolutely wonderful and learning a ton from all of hi books.
